Walk instructions are given from King George V DLR Station to West Silvertown DLR but there are other DLR stations on the route The Royal Docks began as a speclative development in the 1850s. They were expanded with the opening of the Royal Albert Dock in 1880 and the construction of the King George V in 1912-21 by the PLA. After a prosperous period 1910-1950 they went into decline with the development of Tilbury and containerisation. Following closure in 1981 they came under the control of the London Docklands Development Corporation.

The cafes at UEL are open to the public (weekdays only) or there are places to eat around ExCel

4¾ miles, mainly path & pavement walking. The Transporter Bridge is high level reached by lift or stairs. The walk gives a good overview of the Royal Docks with industrial remnants and new developments. The route includes a number of parks.

This walk can be combined with my Silvertown & North Woolwich route for a longer circular walk.
