An Isleworth to Brentford Walk

Route & what to see

london-footprints.co.uk

This 6 mile walk explores two very different riverside areas separated by Syon Park. Isleworth was a settlement based around a manor and is covered by a walk in ‘Village London’ by Andrew Duncan. Brentford has an industrial past as it is situated where the Grand Union Canal enters the Thames. However this traditional role is declining and plans for redevelopment south of the High Street could bring major changes. This area features in 2 GLIAS walk leaflets. Syon House, built on the site of a Medieval abbey, has been home to the Percy family for 400 years and was remodelled by Robert Adam. The extensive gardens, landscaped by Capability Brown, include the Great Conservatory. The park is open to all and includes a garden centre, café and National Trust shop. The walk begins from Richmond Station (District and mainline) and finishes in Brentford High Street from where the 65 bus returns to Richmond. The café in Syon Park is just over halfway.
