ROUTE & WHAT TO SEE
This walk mainly follows that published in Village London by Andrew Duncan. The start and finish points are both on the 269 bus route or you can begin at Albany Park Station (Longmead Drive then Foots Cray Lane) and finish at Bexley Station. It is around 5 miles with Hall Place about halfway convenient for lunch. There is a stile into Churchfield Wood and the river walks can become muddy. Hall Place Gardens are attractive throughout the year and the nursery is open to visitors.
From the junction of Penhill Road & Hurst Road go up Penhill Road then follow the Shuttle Riverway to the right (sections 9-12). Turn right down Upton Road South (Victorian railway development of the 1860s). From the bottom (opposite church) go left along Parkhill Road and continue along Bexley High Street to the roundabout. Follow Bourne Road across a large roundabout and over the Rochester Way then go down and follow the Cray Riverway to Hall Place. Continue the Cray Riverway (Route A - not towards Crayford) from Hall Place under the Rochester Way and up through Churchfield Wood. On exiting the wood go through the former cemetery (now a Nature area) to the right then along Manor Road to the church. From the church follow the High Street back to the junction with Hurst Road (station on left).
