The cafe, shop and exhibition area are open to all. To use the archives you will need a readers ticket (ID required) - available on site or online. It is rather daunting at first and a good way of seeing how the system works and getting a view behind the scenes is to go on a free guided tour, lasting about 2 hours. These are held every Saturday at 11am & 2pm. Places are limited and booking is essential. There is also a guidebook 'The National Archives' by Stella Colwell (sold for £8.99 in the shop). The catalogue of records held can be viewed and items pre-ordered on the website which also has lots of other features.
There is programme of special events (free mailing list) including online taster sessions. There is also a Friends organisation.
The building is situated in an attractive park. Free parking is available.© london-footprints.co.uk 2004
