The collections of the museum are catalogued and items not on display can be viewed by arrangement.
There is a two volume 'Guide to Manuscripts in the NMM'. Paintings are illustrated in 'Concise Catalogue of Oil Paintings' and photos in 'Historic Photographs at the NMM - an illustrated guide'. Most prints and drawings are documented on microfilm or microfiche. Catalogues and details of the collections are available on the website.

The Caird Library is open Tuesday - Friday 10-4:45 and Saturday by arrangement (tel: 020 8312 6528/6673). Period or day tickets can be issued to over 18s with ID. Search Station computer terminals are available to all museum visitors in the library foyer daily until 4.45pm. The information is also available online.

The museum has produced a number of publications which are available in the shop. The Open Museum runs courses in association with Birkbeck College. There is a NMM membership scheme.
