GETTING THERE - nearest stations. Travelcards are good value and include all forms of transport. However for single journeys especially by bus there are cheaper options. Check out fares and other travel information on the tfl website

INFORMATION - find out about the area

WALKS - ideas from london-footprints or other sources

PLACES TO VISIT - attractions with free admission are listed. Those in italics are free in some instances. Chargeable attractions are included if they are good value or worth seeing

ENTERTAINMENT/EVENTS - regular special events or entertainment, generally free

EATING OUT - good places to eat a picnic. There are plenty of take-aways/sandwich shops etc in London - Benjys, Treats & Greggs are among the cheapest. There may also be a 'cheap eats' suggestion.

SHOPPING/MARKETS - places that are worth looking at even if you don't want to buy anything!

CHURCHES - selected churches you may like to visit. Sadly due to theft and vandalism not all churches can be kept open. If you particularly want to see an interior telephone beforehand to check or arrange access

WATER FEATURES - rivers, ponds, lakes, canals, fountains etc

WORTH SEEING - curiosities and special places
